This is a fine example of a South Indian-style temple. It's a male temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It's garbagraham or karuvarai, the holy of holies corresponds to the head. This is where the main image of chief deity, Lord Shiva, is installed.
The shrine for Shakti, the consort of Lord Shiva, is placed at the north-facing side of the mahamandabam which faces the south. It is customary to have a separate entrance for goddess in a 'male' temple.
The gopuram in this temple comprises five tiers of figurines. Each figurine represents the various incarnations of Lord Shiva and characters from legends associated with the period when the temple was built.Sculptures in Hindu temples remind devotees of the physical and ideal worlds.
Main Door :- The main door is specially carved out of quality timber, usually teak or sandalwood. The Carvings on the panel depict either scenes from legends or religious items.
